NATASHA SABATINI
The group exhibition took place at Rich Mix, in the lower gallery from the 07/05/2014 to the 18/05/2014, the show was thought of, organised and curated by myself and supported by the organisation 'Somewhere_to' and sponsored by the O2 Think Big campaign. My role included securing funding and a venue, designing the poster, marketing the event, curating the show, communicating with participating artist and parter organisations.
The idea behind the show was to gather together a group of artists who made work around the theme of discarded objects, and the abundance of waste and material goods. There was a deliberate choice made to look at the wide range of ways this subject can be interpreted. Artists reproduced, reinvented worlds and invested old thrown away material with new meaning. The participating artists were: Helen Bur, Luke Fuller, Arron Kuiper, Christian Patracchini, Dafydd Roberts, Hollie Slaughter and Myself.
"Everything that the big city threw away, everything that it lost, everything it despised, everything it crushed underfoot, he catalogues and collects...he sorts things out and makes a wise choice; he collects, like a miser guarding a treasure, the refuse which will assume the shape of a useful or gratifying object between the jaws of the goddess of industry" - Charles Baudelaire
